The SAT Subject tests measure a student's knowledge and skills in a particular subject and their ability to apply that knowledge. It is recommended that a student take the Subject test after completing the highest level course in that specific subject area and that the student discusses their readiness for the Subject test with the subject course teacher prior to registering to be certain they have sufficiently covered the material for which they are being tested. Students can take up to three tests on any testing date. Tests are 1 hour each. Not all colleges require Subject tests in the admissions process.

Score Choice gives a tester the option to choose which scores you send to colleges by individual tests for SAT Subject Tests. Students can choose scores from one, several, or all test dates, as well as view the score-use practices of participating colleges and universities. Colleges and universities will only receive the scores that the tester authorizes to send.

Registration: Students who wish to register for the Subject tests must do so through the college board. Students can register online at http://www.collegeboard.com/.

Fee Waivers: Eligible students who demonstrate financial need can receive up to two (2) fee waivers for the SAT and up to two (2) fee waivers for the Subject test registration. Eligible students should contact their school counselor for a waiver form.

How many SAT Subject Tests do I have to take?

Most colleges do not require subject tests. Consult with the admissions office to determine how many subject tests, if any, you will have to submit for admission. There are some guides online that compile lists of colleges and their requirements, such as this one, courtesy of Compass Education Group. However, always confirm that the information is correct with each college admissions office.

How do I decide what my other tests should be?

You should choose subjects in which you excel and which you have recently finished. Some schools require students to take specific subject tests based on desire major. Contact the college admissions office for details if this may apply to you.
