The Columbia Borough School District is proud to announce that Columbia High School has been chosen as one of five hundred high schools in the nation to participate in the Vans Custom Culture High School 2020 Competition.
According to High School Principal Dr. Michael Smith, he recently received notification that Columbia was one of the school’s selected to partake in this contest. Each participating school receives two blank pairs of Vans sneakers to decorate. The Art Department, under the direction of teacher Matthew Mikos, will spearhead the project on “The Hill.” Students, whom may work individually or as a team, are currently submitting their ideas; those selected will then work with Mr. Mikos to create a design that represents Columbia.
Another aspect of this contest is a writing component, which is being directed by the high school English Department. Six students have been selected to write about the designs created by their peers, as well as why Columbia deserves this prestigious award. The wining school will receive $75,000 for its art department. Shoe image submissions are due no later than March 31, followed by public voting during the month of April; the top five schools will be announced May 4, with the winning entry announced sometime between May 11 – 15.
Further information on this contest can be found by visiting https://customculture.vans.com/
